Summer Sanders and Lea Loveless of Stanford broke their own American records and helped set another mark in a relay.
Texas finished the first day of the NCAA Women’s Swimming Championships at Austin, Tex., leading Stanford, 213.5-175.
Sanders broke the 200-yard individual medley record, swimming 1:55.54 and lowering her old mark by 1.28 seconds.
Loveless’ backstroke mark came in the first leg of the 400-yard medley relay, during which the Cardinal team set an American record. Loveless swam her leg, the first one, in 52.79 seconds.
Lori Heisick and Janel Jorgensen joined Sanders and Loveless in the relay, finishing in an American record 3:35.64.
