Cultural Awareness

Your commentary (“Turning a Blind Eye to Cultural Awareness,” Feb. 23) deserves a response. In it, you state that white businessmen bandy about “loose statistics” about black families. Cultural awareness is good for society, but it should not blind us to the unpleasant facts:

* Nearly two-thirds of black births are illegitimate.

* One-third of black males are in prison or on probation/parole.

* There are more black males incarcerated than in college.
