Union Says Carolco Pictures Late on Payments: The West Hollywood company, which is hoping its new film “Basic Instinct,” will help turn it around, is delinquent in paying royalties that union members earned on previous films, the unions said. The Screen Actors Guild, the Directors Guild of America and the Writers Guild of America West said the figure is estimated at $2.3 million. It covers the second half of last year, they said. Despite numerous requests and discussions the past two weeks, the guilds said, Carolco has declined to cooperate to try to resolve the issue. The unions said they are advising all their members to “proceed with caution in dealing with Carolco entities.” The company did not answer calls Sunday.
