Shifting the Gold: “Golden Palace,” a retooled version of “Golden Girls” minus one of its stars, Bea Arthur, appears headed for CBS, not NBC, next season. NBC reportedly was unable to reach a deal on the Witt-Thomas-Harris Productions sitcom, in which the rest of the “girls” will buy and run a small hotel in South Miami. Arthur had announced earlier that she did not want to do another season of “Girls,” triggering the revamping. NBC is still negotiating on two other popular Witt-Thomas-Harris series, “Empty Nest” and “Nurses.” “Golden Palace” would mark the third veteran series that NBC--which is targeting younger viewers next season--has allowed to migrate to other networks. “In the Heat of the Night” will be on CBS next season and “Matlock” on ABC.
