From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Ford Recalls 1988-91 Tauruses and Sables: Ford Motor Co. announced the recall of 689,000 of its 1988- to 1991-model Taurus and Sable cars to replace the front brake rotors. The voluntary recall is limited to vehicles now registered or originally sold in 14 states in the Northeast and Great Lakes region. Severe weather conditions combined with calcium or sodium chloride road salts may cause extensive corrosion of the front brake rotors, the company said. Owners will be notified by mail and asked to return their vehicles to dealers to have replacement rotors installed at no charge.
