Advanced Logic Research Inc. The Irvine computer maker launched a new line of portable notebook computers on Tuesday.

The machines, which fit inside a briefcase and can be upgraded for faster computing performance, were originally announced last October under the ALR VIP name and were scheduled to be shipped in January.

But David Kirkey, vice president of worldwide sales for ALR, said the line, which has been modified and renamed the ALR Ranger, now will be available in April. A color version is scheduled to be available in June.

“This industry is changing tremendously fast,” Kirkey said. “We decided to go with new technology that would make our product more unique.”
