Caterpillar Inc. officials and members of the United Auto Workers union met for the first time in more than a month to discuss a 5-month-old strike, but no progress was apparent. Both sides agreed to reconvene today. . . . North American sales of personal computer applications software reached $5.71 billion in 1991, a 24.6% increase over 1990, according to the Software Publishers Assn. . . . The Philippine government handed over control of Philippine Airlines to a new consortium called PR Holdings.
