Long Beach : Port Hires Consultants to Study Queen Mary’s Future

Share

The Harbor Commission has approved the hiring of a team of consultants to evaluate development possibilities for the Queen Mary and surrounding property.

Port officials say they already have a group of consultants in mind and have asked them for a contract proposal. Long Beach civic leaders are eager to get the study under way as soon as possible and hope to have the development recommendations within six months.

The commission’s action was taken in the wake of the Walt Disney Co.’s decision to end its lease on the Queen Mary and Spruce Goose tourist attractions and give up development rights on about 250 acres of surrounding property, much of it under water.
