A man suspected of robbing a Stanton bank last week--five minutes after another robber hit the same bank--has surrendered to investigators, the FBI said Thursday.

Clinton William Cooper Sr., 46, turned himself in to Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies in Lakewood at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, the FBI reported.

FBI agents suspect Cooper of robbing a Bank of America in Stanton on March 19 at about 11 a.m. A few minutes earlier, another bandit had also fled with cash from the bank.

Police arrested Dwight James Fowler, 21, in the first robbery on March 19.

“What are the odds of two guys putting on unrelated bank robberies within five minutes of each other?” asked Gary Morley of the FBI. “What are the odds of both being in custody within one week?

“That just doesn’t happen.”

Cooper, whose last known address is in Victorville, was also held on suspicion of a March 17 bank robbery in Paramount, Morley said. FBI investigators said they suspect him of more robberies.

He was being held in Los Angeles Central Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail.
