Pilot Program Will Recycle Yard Waste
Two Lancaster neighborhoods will be the first in the city required to separate their garden waste from the rest of their garbage under a pilot recycling program set to start in about two weeks.
Officials of Waste Management Inc., which handles most residential trash collection in Lancaster, said the program will involve about 1,000 households. Information gathered in the pilot program will be used to help develop a citywide garden waste program to meet state recycling requirements.
Residents of a neighborhood on the city’s east side will be asked to put their garden waste in a separate container. Residents in a west-side neighborhood will be asked to put the waste in separate plastic bags. Both will be picked up on regular collection days.
