Terry Pendleton’s most difficult experience was the birth last week of his second child, who was almost two months premature and was supposed to have a twin.

Terry Jr., 5 pounds 3 ounces at birth, is healthy despite the death of his sibling earlier in his mother’s pregnancy. Catherine Pendleton carried both babies until her son was born last Friday.

“I would say it’s the toughest thing I’ve ever been through, and now it’s a big sigh of relief and serious happiness. I don’t know how to explain that. It comes from deep within,” Pendleton said Wednesday.

“We had known about the other twin for several months. But we just didn’t think it was anyone else’s business. Now I feel I can talk about it with people.”

Pendleton said they had not arranged for a doctor or hospital in West Palm Beach, thinking spring training would be over before the baby’s birth.

“I had to make some calls at a quarter of seven in the morning,” he said. “Believe me, that was a tough situation.”

The Pendletons also have an 18-month-old daughter, Stephanie.
