First Boston Names Baylis, Murphy to Two Top Posts

First Boston Corp. said it promoted Robert M. Baylis, 53, to vice chairman and Charles J. Murphy, 44, to head of investment banking.
It said James R. Maher, 42, will leave the firm on June 30. Maher joined the Wall Street firm in 1976 and was named a managing director in 1983. He was appointed head of the investment banking department in 1988 and named to parent company CS First Boston’s group executive committee when it was formed in 1989. In 1990, he also became vice chairman of First Boston.
Baylis most recently served as managing director of the financial institutions group within the investment banking department.
In a press release, First Boston said Murphy most recently served as managing director of the investment banking group within the investment banking department. Successors to Baylis and Murphy have not yet been named.
