SAN DIEGO : Suspended Lawyer Guilty of Practicing
A suspended lawyer who continued to represent clients in civil and criminal cases pleaded guilty Friday to two counts of unauthorized practice of law and resigned from the State Bar.
After Richard Norman Potack, 41, pleaded guilty, he signed a document relinquishing any right to practice law.
He was suspended by the State Bar for four years last August, for unknown causes, because reasons for disciplinary action against attorneys are private. But authorities said Potack continued to practice, using his 1979 Cadillac as a mobile office. Potack also has been charged twice with drunk driving, and his car was impounded in February.
According to court records, Potack could receive a maximum sentence of three years and eight months in state prison plus a $20,000 fine.
San Diego Superior Court Judge Frederic L. Link scheduled sentencing for April 24. Link dismissed 10 other felony charges of unauthorized practice of law.
