Dana Hills Students Find City Hall’s Views on Eatery Hard to Swallow

Share

Give me a break! The city must realize that closing the campus of Dana Hills (High School) involves squeezing 2,700 people into one limited area. Along with that comes serious overcrowding, which then leads to a higher number of altercations between students. To prevent this from happening, more spending on security would be needed, which is inconsistent with the large layoffs of teachers in the district.

When asked about the teen-agers, City Manager (William O.) Talley said, “We’re dealing with a lot of people who just don’t care about people’s rights and feelings.” It seems to me that the city officials are the people described in the quote. The campus is just not big enough for almost 3,000 kids to all be there at one time.

The problem isn’t as bad as it is proclaimed to be in the first place. First of all, only a minority of the people who eat at the plaza are troublemakers. Second, the period of time that most of the teen-agers “hang out” there adds up to a total of about 45 minutes.
