LIVERPOOL, England —
Police Monday seized nearly a ton of cocaine hidden inside lead ingots, the largest shipment of the illegal drug ever confiscated in Britain.
Fourteen men were arrested in connection with an international ring that smuggled cocaine into Britain and the Netherlands, the customs office said.
A customs official said the 1,980 pounds of high-quality cocaine was worth an estimated $225 million.
