April Fools’ Day Contest Is a Real Gem

Expert and amateur gemologists are invited to guess which jewels are original designs by big names such as Tiffany and Cartier, and which are imitations created by N. Landau Hyman Jewels as part of Hyman’s second annual April Fools’ Faux Challenge, beginning today.

The store in Century City Shopping Center will set up display cases filled with 10 pieces of jewelry ranging from earrings to necklaces. The jewels could be originals costing as much as a quarter of a million dollars or Hyman copies priced as low as $100.

Contestants who guess all 10 items correctly win a $10 gift certificate. Last year, more than 1,000 people tried, and 96% were tricked by the Hyman fakes.
