Digital, Intel Announce Venture: Digital Equipment Corp. and Intel Corp. announced plans to design software that would make it easier to use “massively parallel” computers. The computers harness hundreds or thousands of relatively low-powered microprocessors like those used in personal computers to work on a problem at high speed. Some analysts say a lack of software and compatibility standards have hindered widespread use of massively parallel processing. Intel and Digital said their alliance should change that.
