Share

Lakewood is completing a $27,500 renovation of the George Nye Jr. Library, which was opened 20 years ago this month and named in honor of a member of the first City Council in 1954.

The work has included replacing trees, redoing landscaping and installing a new irrigation system outside the library. The interior has been spruced up with new carpeting and tile, repainted walls and refinished woodwork and reupholstered furniture. The exterior of the one-story brick building has been cleaned and lighting replaced in an outside sign.

The library, at 6600 Del Amo Blvd. adjacent to Mae Boyer Park, is closed during the final phases of the work. It will reopen Tuesday and the city will hold a grand reopening from 2 to 4 p.m. April 11. Tours will be conducted and refreshments served.
