SANTA MONICA MOUNTAINS : 26 Acres of Public Parkland Dedicated

Share

A 26-acre parcel of public parkland in Benedict Canyon was dedicated Thursday at a ceremony sponsored by the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy.

Officials with the conservancy said the donated tract will be linked with other public lands to create an unbroken swath of wildlife habitat on both sides of the Santa Monicas, from the Beverly Glen area to Sherman Oaks.

John Diaz, chief of land acquisition for the state park agency, said the parcel near Benedict Canyon Drive and Clear View Drive, northwest of Beverly Hills, abuts about 130 acres that the conservancy expects to acquire from entertainer Merv Griffin as part of a development project.

Conservancy officials said the donor of the land asked to remain anonymous. But agency documents more than a year ago identified the donor as Harold A. Parma of Santa Barbara.
