Yesterday’s Yuppies Today’s ‘Limers’
Forget Yuppies, a German magazine has updated the term with new lifestyle categories such as “Limers” and “Mobies.”
The Munich-based women’s magazine Freundin says lifestyles are changing and new terms are in order.
“Limers”--or less income more excitement--are young urban professionals, formerly Yuppies, who give up part of their incomes for more professional independence or leisure time, the magazine says. It cites one of Germany’s leading television journalists and veteran Moscow correspondent, Gabriele Krone-Schmalz, who turned down a higher-paying job in New York to moderate a cultural program at home.
Another term is “Hanks”--health and nature keepers. These people eat health food and support environmental protection.
