Delta Files Counterclaim Against Pan Am Creditors: Delta Air Lines, branded as the villain that killed off Pan American World Airways, filed court papers that tried to hang the blame on Pan Am’s creditors. Atlanta-based Delta said it is seeking unspecified actual and punitive damages from the Pan Am creditors committee in a counterclaim to a $2.5-billion suit brought by the creditors and Pan Am management. Delta’s filing makes its counterclaims only against the creditors. Pan Am stopped flying Dec. 4, a day after lawyers said Pan Am’s reorganization could not proceed because Delta had backed out of a deal to provide financing to Pan Am.
