Sears to Sell Apple Computers: Apple Computer Inc. said it has authorized Sears, Roebuck & Co. to sell Macintosh personal computers and printers, giving the PC giant a strategic foothold in the retail market. Apple said in a statement that Sears, the nation’s third-biggest retailer, will offer the Macintosh products through 60 office centers it opened last year in nine Eastern and Midwestern states as well as Washington. The office centers, designed to appeal to small business people and others who need to do office work at home, already sell PC products under the IBM, Toshiba, Cumulus, Laser and Packard Bell brand names.
