Jerry Brown’s Flat Tax Plan

Share

It is with amazement that I read both Columns Left and Right advocating Brown’s flat tax proposal. I guess that is the problem when people who have never been out in the real world are allowed to voice opinions.

The single biggest fraud on our system is the “unreported” sales tax that is collected on a daily basis by retailers in states where there is such a tax. The owners of so-called “cash” businesses are probably wringing their hands with anticipation as they hope to see their profits go up by this mystical 13% value-added tax.

It is common practice to pay for items with cash and get a discount and no sales tax charged in any number of retail stores in the greater Los Angeles area. Can you imagine what would happen if this were a nationwide policy?
