18 Rebels, 2 Policemen Die as Colombia Violence Rises

BOGOTA, Colombia —
Fighting between Colombian security forces and left-wing guerrillas killed 18 rebels and two policemen over the weekend, military officials said Monday.
Fighting in the decades-old guerrilla war has increased sharply since the government suspended peace talks with the rebels in Mexico last month in protest over the death of a former Cabinet minister while a captive of the guerrillas.
