A 31-year-old man was arrested Tuesday in Nestor, accused of holding his former girlfriend hostage for four days, San Diego police said.

Harold Cuttingham was arrested for allegedly keeping his ex-girlfriend, Stacy Kozachenko, 22, locked in his camper and beating her. Cuttingham is also accused of preventing her escape by threatening her with a .22-caliber rifle and a pit bull terrier, police spokesman Bill Robinson said.

Cuttingham stayed awake from the time he abducted her until he finally fell asleep early Tuesday, Robinson said.

Kozachenko was then able to escape and call police from a grocery store at Palm Avenue and Saturn Boulevard, Robinson said. She led police to the camper, parked in a vacant field in Nestor, where they arrested Cuttingham on suspicion of kidnaping and spousal abuse, Robinson said.

Police do not believe Kozachenko was sexually abused, Robinson said.

Officers shot the pit bull when it charged them, Robinson said.
