Announcing Bus Stops

Share

Your editorial (“Speaking Part,” April 1) urges bus drivers to call out upcoming stops.

Here is a good idea we could adopt from Japan. Buses in Japan are equipped with a system that both announces the next stop and shows it on an LED display. This is good for the blind, deaf and those of us who are just unfamiliar with the area.

Going even further to advance rider convenience, many bus stops in Tokyo have an electronic board that shows the current position of the next bus as well as the estimated time that will be required to reach certain points on that bus line, based on current traffic conditions.
