Two gunmen forced their way into an apartment Monday night, tied up two residents and escaped with $40,000 in jewelry and $400 cash, authorities said.

The victims, a 31-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman, told Orange County sheriff’s deputies that the suspects broke into the apartment in the 20700 block of El Toro Road at about 10:30 p.m. While one man pointed a gun at them, the other tied them up with tape and then ransacked the apartment, according to the police report.

It took the victims about 20 minutes to free themselves, but neither was injured, police said.
