MISSION HILLS : Ammonia Leak Causes Explosion

Share

A leak from a 2,500-gallon tank of ammonia caused an explosion in Mission Hills late Sunday, but there were no injuries and no residences were evacuated.

The cause of the explosion at Paramount Citrus’ juicing plant in the 15300 block of Brand Boulevard was unknown Monday, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Jim Wells said.

A spokesman for the company said a leak on a valve of the tank filled a room at the plant with ammonia, causing an explosion, which caused minor fire damage.

Wells said the explosion sent a cloud of ammonia into the air, but it dissipated quickly and caused no injuries.
