China, McDonnell May Produce More Jets: A joint venture between China and McDonnell Douglas Corp. reportedly will produce an additional 40 twin-engine jetliners in Shanghai. The planes will be for the Chinese market, the Wall Street Journal reported. The factory is producing 35 planes under an existing contract. Twenty-eight of the MD-80 series jets have already been delivered to China’s domestic carriers.
