West Covina : Automated Trash Pickup
The City Council on Tuesday received a proposal from West Covina Disposal to provide a citywide automated household and green waste collection system.
The estimated additional cost for residents would be $3.41 per month, raising the total trash pickup bill to $12.79, including a 10% franchise fee. The cost includes replacement of existing 30-gallon containers with two 90-gallon containers on wheels that allow for easy automated pickup.
The proposal contains an option under which commercial businesses would be charged an additional 79 cents for existing automated services, which would lower the residential fees to $12 per household.
The city’s Waste Management and Environmental Quality Commission will review the proposal and hold a public hearing April 16 before presenting a recommendation at the May 5 council meeting.
If approved, the program would begin Sept. 7.
