The Cal Poly Pomona women’s tennis team will play host at its second annual Xenia Anastasiadou Memorial tennis tournament Friday through Sunday at the campus tennis courts.

The eight-team event is named after a two-time Division II singles champion from Pomona who died in a car accident in 1990. All eight teams in this year’s field are ranked among the top 20, including top-ranked Pomona, No. 2 Abilene Christian, No. 5 UC Davis, No. 7 Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, No. 8 Florida Southern, No. 9 Cal State Los Angeles, No. 12 Cal State Bakersfield and No. 16 Sonoma State.

The Cal Poly Pomona baseball team entered the week 9-22 and 3-7 in the California Collegiate Athletic Assn., but outfielder Brian Mena remains among the league’s batting leaders.

Mena, a junior center fielder, leads the conference in batting with a .397 average. Last week, Mena hit his fourth and fifth home runs during a 4-3 loss to Cal State Fullerton, which is ranked seventh in Division I by Baseball America.

Pomona plays a three-game CCAA series with Cal State San Bernardino beginning Friday.
