Female Appointees in Diamond Bar

Share

Set the record straight. There is a misconception being spread that the (Diamond Bar) Council is appointing their male friends, with a few token females.

Diana Cheng and I are Diamond Bar commissioners who happen to be women. Neither of us is a “Good Ol’ Boy.” Any woman--or man--should consider the following if they desire an appointment.

Get involved in this community. Demonstrate an enjoyment of working for the betterment of this community at personal expense and without reward.

Attend commission meetings. Show your interest. Discuss issues logically and reasonably.

Apply for the job. Have a resume. Prove your ability to assess needs and your ability to communicate them. Technical expertise is desirable. Know that you will have a lot of competition. Be persistent.

If you are successful in becoming a commissioner, congratulations. Make the time commitment. Do your homework before meetings. Attendance is important. You are part of a team. Act like it. Be inquisitive: It is important to know what people think. It is just as important to know why they think it. Find consensus. Make decisions. Be passionate in making decisions that are for the public good, never for political gain.

It is both incorrect and non-productive to cry “cronyism” in the appointment of commissioners. This is one commissioner who has a deep desire to do a good job.
