In Century League volleyball:

Valencia 3, El Modena 2--Jon Young had 28 kills, Joe Reynoza added 23 and Doug Finnell had 73 assists for Valencia, a 17-15, 15-12, 8-15, 12-15, 15-5 winner. The Tigers are 8-1, 3-0.

Aaron Seltzer had 25 kills for El Modena (8-1, 2-1).

In Pacific Coast League volleyball:

Estancia 3, Laguna Hills 2--Visiting Estancia (5-4, 2-1) almost let a two-game lead slip away, but hung on for a 15-5, 15-13, 9-15, 11-15, 15-13 victory. Matt Fuerbringer had 26 kills for Estancia.

Aaron Cook and Randy Fowler each had 12 kills for Laguna Hills (4-5, 2-1).

In South Coast League softball:

Mission Viejo 3, Capistrano Valley 1--Pitcher Kim Lakaso’s three-run homer with two out in the sixth were all the runs visiting Mission Viejo (4-7, 1-0) needed. Lakaso (3-2) allowed only five hits and did not walk a batter.

Dana Hills 1, San Clemente 0--With the bases loaded and two out in the top of the seventh, Lisa Simpson drove in the games only run with her team’s only hit.

San Clemente pitcher Niclana Tolmasoff took the loss despite the one-hitter. Dana Hills is 4-4, 1-0.

In Sunset League softball:

Fountain Valley 4, Huntington Beach 3--Jennifer Allchin had two hits, stole two bases and scored three of Fountain Valley’s four runs. Danelle Lovetro had two hits, two stolen bases and an RBI and Jodi Bixler had a hit and two RBIs for the Barons (9-3, 4-0).

Ocean View 8, Westminster 3--Tami Dowlin and and Lisa Dacquisto each had three hits for the Seahawks (8-6, 3-1).

In nonleague softball:

Mater Dei 2, Cypress 0--Top-ranked Mater Dei defeated No. 3 Cypress when Kim Fox drove in two runs in the fifth with the Monarch’s only hit of the game against Monica Jimenez.

Terri Kobata (5-0) pitched a two-hitter, striking out 11, for the Monarchs (8-1-1). Cypress is 10-2.

In Sea View League girls’ swimming:

Corona del Mar 88, Woodbridge 82--Trailing by four points entering the 400-yard freestyle relay, Corona del Mar (5-1, 3-0) finished first and second in the relay to win at Heritage Park. Anna Ferrari, a senior exchange student from Brazil, was the only individual winner for the Sea Kings, taking the 200 individual medley in 2:27.71.

In Orange League boys’ tennis:

Valencia 13, Magnolia 5--Huey Dang and Hiten Patel swept in No. 1 doubles (6-0, 6-1, 6-2) and Robert Bay and Ron Lacuata swept at No. 2 (6-0, 6-1, 6-2) for Valencia (9-2, 3-0). Bay and Lacuata are 35-1 this season.

In Sea View League tennis:

University 15, Newport Harbor 3--University (13-1, 6-0), top-ranked in Orange County breezed to an easy victory at Newport Harbor behind the play of No. 1 singles player Jason Meyers, who didn’t lose a game in winning three sets. Newport Harbor fell to 3-8, 1-5.

In nonleague tennis:

Santa Barbara 13, Corona del Mar 5--David Bain and the doubles team of Ed Bryant and Jed Weinstein each won two sets for visiting Corona del Mar (10-2). Top-ranked Santa Barbara (12-0) has won six consecutive Southern Section titles.

Irvine 12, Edison 6--Irvine (6-6) won six of nine singles sets, with Tom Armacost winning two of three at No. 1 singles, and six of nine doubles sets. Edison is 5-6.

In nonleague golf:

El Toro 391, Trabuco Hills 397--Senior Joe Garner shot two-over 74 and his sophomore brother, Ben, shot 76 for El Toro (12-0) on a match played over two days at Coto de Caza and El Toro Marina Base. Mark Christensen shot 77 for Trabuco Hills (8-2). El Toro and Trabuco Hills were tied for first in the midseason Orange County coaches poll.

Estancia 421, Western 426--Tiger Woods shot a two-under par 70 as the Pioneers fell to 6-5.

Laguna Hills 205, University 217--Eunice Choi shot one-under 35 for Laguna Hills (10-4) at Pacific Golf Club.
