FULLERTON : 15 of 17 Businesses Refuse Minor Liquor
Fifteen businesses that rebuffed attempts by an undercover, underage police cadet to buy liquor have been recognized for their civic-mindedness in letters of commendation from the city’s police chief.
The cadet sought to buy liquor from 17 Fullerton businesses, and all but two turned him down, Police Chief Phil Goehring said.
“It was certainly gratifying to find that the majority of our businesses which sell liquor operate in a responsible and ethical manner,” Goehring said in a statement. The letters of commendation were intended “to let these businesses know that we, as law enforcement officers, appreciate their doing their part to reduce alcohol-related problems that involve the youth of our community.”
The Police Department launched the undercover operation after receiving complaints from citizens in recent months that some local liquor stores and neighborhood markets were lax in enforcing liquor laws.
The two stores that sold alcohol to the undercover cadet were cited for misdemeanors and face the possibility of losing their liquor licenses.
