Diamond Bar : Talks With Western Waste
The City Council agreed last week to open negotiations with Baldwin Park-based Western Waste Industries to replace the eight firms now collecting trash in the city.
The 3-1 vote Tuesday offered Western Waste exclusive trash rights but would require the company to charge residents no more than the current minimum rate of $10.50 per month.
Eight residents protested the change to a non-competitive system, but city staff said it was the only way to meet state recycling requirements.
Councilman Gary Werner dissented, saying the city staff gave too little importance to price and service.
