Style : DESIGN : Retro Retailers : Two new stores spotlight pieces of the past

Share

The eastern end of Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood isn’t the most glamorous place on earth, but Hilde and Philippe Leiaghat may be changing that with Pom-Pom. Between the restaurant Jingo and the Actors Circle Theatre, the roomy storefront is filled with treasures old and new, silly and sublime. Vintage table fans of every description top a wall of shelves. Easy chairs and tables beg to be curled up in and set. Old-time pie tins, footed salad bowls, can openers with wood handles and glass milk bottles--they’re all here, too. The rear of the store is devoted to scads of used Levi’s, pristine cotton T-shirts from China and wonderful white, red and navy high-top sneakers, all at rock-bottom prices. Also available are bath oils and soaps, antique gloves and leather valises, floor lamps, thrift-shop art, even some toys. The stock changes daily, making frequent visits a must. Pom-Pom, 7315 Santa Monica Blvd., (213) 876-4846 .
