Amperif Will Fight Patent Suit Filed by Unisys

Amperif Corp. said it will fight a patent-infringement lawsuit filed against the Chatsworth company by computer giant Unisys Corp.

Amperif produces data-storage components used with large-scale computers such as those built by Unisys, which is based in Blue Bell, Pa. Amperif therefore competes against Unisys in trying to sell its equipment to users of Unisys machines.

Unisys’ suit, filed April 3 in federal court in Philadelphia, alleges that Amperif is infringing on certain of Unisys’ data-storage patents. The suit seeks an injunction against Amperif and unspecified damages.

But Amperif said the suit “is groundless and without merit,” and represents an attack “through the courts, rather than in the marketplace.”
