In the largest such roundup in the city’s history, Glendale police arrested 57 suspected gang members and seized three handguns, two sawed-off rifles and other weapons at a home in the 700 block of Faircourt Lane, authorities said Monday.

Police were called late Saturday by alarmed neighbors who saw several people wearing gang-type apparel and carrying weapons in the street. Capt. Glynn Martin said the suspects, who are believed to be members of gangs based in northeast Los Angeles and Sun Valley, told investigators they were attending a birthday party.

The 20 juvenile suspects were released to their parents, while the 37 adults remained in Glendale City Jail on suspicion of conspiracy to commit assault with a deadly weapon and violation of a street terrorism law. Martin said the adults would likely be released today, pending an investigation to determine whether criminal charges will be filed.
