The Ojai City Council on Tuesday allocated $11,900 in federal housing and development grants to three countywide public service organizations and one Ojai-based group.

Help of Ojai was awarded $3,400 to provide emergency shelter in the Ojai area; the Area Housing Authority was given a $5,000 grant to provide housing counseling; Interface Children Family Services of Ventura County received a $2,000 grant for general services; and the Ventura County Public Social Services Agency’s Long-term Care Ombudsman Program received $1,500.

All four organizations had previously received federal housing and development grants from the city.

The grants were allocated from $54,400 in Community Development Block Grants that Ojai received this year from the department of Housing and Urban Development, said City Manager Andrew Belknap.

The remaining funds were earmarked for capital improvement projects, with $12,500 given to the Casa Pacifica children’s home planned for Camarillo and $30,000 earmarked for renovations to the Libbey Park play area in Ojai.
