PLATFORM : Writing Confidently Comes First

Questions of grammar and usage are secondary to the experience of great literature in the high-school classroom and should be addressed only in so far as they hinder our ability to make meaning of those works.

When the students express themselves in writing, I find standard usage highly desirable. But too much insistence on correctness can be inhibiting to many students.

I would much rather have them write confidently, if a little incorrectly, than have them intimidated by my desire for precise usage.
