Nation IN BRIEF : WASHINGTON, D.C. : Reagan’s Security Undergoing Review
The Secret Service started an internal investigation of how a protester managed to rush former President Ronald Reagan on a Las Vegas stage. In Las Vegas, U.S. Magistrate Lawrence Leavitt ordered the suspect, Rick Springer, 41, released on his own recognizance on a charge of threatening a former President, rejecting prosecution contentions Springer was a danger to society. Springer, of Arcata, Calif., appeared in court with pants torn down one side and a cut on his leg. He won permission to participate in a series of anti-nuclear protests.
