The Los Angeles chapter of the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Assn. will hold its 5th Annual Celebrity Golf Classic at La Canada Flintridge Country Club on Monday. The event, hosted by actors Tom Bosley and Samantha Eggar and featuring dozens of other celebrities, will raise money to fight ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Proceeds will help fund patient services, support groups and research into the cause of ALS, a degenerative disease of the nervous system that leads to certain death. The San Fernando Valley chapter of the California Landscape Contractor’s Assn. has named Jonathan Sidy as its new president. Sidy is the founder and president of The Jonathan Co., a Tarzana-based landscape design, contracting and maintenance firm. He has been an advocate of drought-resistant landscaping and has headed a public education campaign on water conservation. The San Fernando Valley chapter, made up of landscape contractors and those in related fields, funds a student scholarship for landscape contracting and is involved in many public service projects, including the Pacific Lodge Boys Home and the Van Nuys Salvation Army headquarters.
