LOS ANGELES : Schools Scrap Deadline for Condom Consent Forms

Share

After initially setting a deadline of April 20 to return consent forms for condoms, Los Angeles Unified School District officials now say parents can submit the forms at any time during the school year.

The district, which plans to begin distributing condoms on some high school campuses later this month, is giving parents the option to deny permission for their teen-agers to receive them. The consent forms were mailed to students’ homes this week.

Deputy Supt. Sid Thompson said in a statement released Tuesday that the forms will be accepted at any time. Parents who deny permission and later change their minds can notify the school.

The condom distribution program, approved last January by the Board of Education, is part of a 10-point plan to strengthen the district’s AIDS prevention and education efforts.
