SDSU’s Assistant AD Taylor Leaves for Private Business

Rick Taylor, a San Diego State assistant athletic director in charge of corporate sponsorships, has resigned to go into real estate, SDSU senior associate athletic director John Wadas said Wednesday.

Wadas said that because of budget constraints and a hiring freeze, Taylor’s position would be absorbed within the department.

“We’re doing a lot of reshuffling,” Wadas said, noting both the tight budget and possible new IRS tax laws relating to college sports. “We’re looking at doing some (corporate sponsorship) things differently so we’re not tax liable.”

SDSU will host Texas, Washington State and Morgan State next December in the Texaco Star Classic, according to John Wadas, SDSU senior associate athletic director.

Morgan State, from Baltimore, replaces Eastern Washington, which was a late scratch.

Additionally, the Aztecs will host Nevada Las Vegas. A home game with USC has been delayed because of scheduling conflicts.

The SDSU basketball schedule should be done by the end of April, Wadas said.
