GLENDALE : Kilo of Opium Seized, 5 Suspects Arrested
Acting on a tip, Glendale police Wednesday afternoon seized more than a kilo of opium that was mailed to a Glendale house from overseas, and arrested five people on suspicion of conspiracy to distribute opium.
Rouben Arzoumanian, 49; Edward Babaian, 29; Armen Djavanpour, 45; Anahid Gharabeglou, 35, and Albert Gharabeglou, 42, were arrested at their homes in Glendale, said Sgt. Jim Woody. They were being held in Glendale jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
Woody said the five are part of an opium smuggling ring. He declined to say how long the ring has operated, or from what country the opium was sent.
