Poway Killer Gets 25-Year Sentence

A Poway man who strangled his 17-year-old girlfriend was sentenced Friday to 25 years to life in state prison.
The sentencing of Juan Martinez Ortiz, 25, followed tearful testimony from the mother of Christy Thomah, who was found slain in Ortiz’s apartment in the 14000 block of Powers Road following a party on Aug. 28.
Ortiz pleaded guilty to first-degree murder March 25. He was sentenced by San Diego Superior Court Judge John Thompson.
