CHULA VISTA : 1 Killed, 2 Injured When Cars Collide

One man was killed and a second seriously injured when two cars collided at a Chula Vista intersection early Saturday morning, authorities said.

Gene Paul Lucero, a resident of the 500 block of Madrona Street in Chula Vista, was ejected from his pickup truck and died at the scene, according to the county medical examiner’s office. A passenger in his truck sustained only minor injuries, police said.

Dong Jin Suh, the driver of the other vehicle, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Mercy Hospital, where he underwent surgery and was listed in fair condition Saturday evening, officials said.

Lucero was southbound on Tierra Del Rey about 2:15 a.m. when he attempted to make a left turn onto H Street and collided with Suh’s westbound vehicle, police said. It appeared that Lucero failed to yield to Suh’s oncoming vehicle, said Chula Vista Police Lt. Art Gawf.
