Judge Gray on Legalizing Drugs

Share

The articles regarding the proposal to legalize the sale of certain drugs prompt me to shout “Hallelujah!” I must congratulate Gray on his daring suggestion for a thoughtful and enterprising solution to this major problem . . . one that continues to elude the impotent and almost subversive result that our country’s ludicrous “war on drugs” program has actually had.

Those knee-jerk detractors who continue to overlook and endorse the present double standard of drug enforcement (yes, folks, alcohol is this nation’s No. 1 drug problem) and disregard the history lesson of Prohibition really need to rethink the entire approach to the present scheme, which has so miserably failed.

As a husband, father and businessman who abhors the day-to-day headlines and recountings of pointless killings, drive-by shootings and other violent crimes against innocents and law-enforcement personnel, which are so obviously precipitated not so much by the use of drugs but by the illegal sources and channels of drug supply, I believe that Judge Gray’s plan is a breath of fresh air and honest thinking. I can only hope that our legislators will develop the courage and imagination to seriously explore and undertake this concept.
