An Informal Evening With Los Temerarios

Los Temerarios, one of Mexico’s most successful pop groups, deserves credit for trying to establish an informal mood with the audience during its concert/dance party on Saturday at the Los Angeles Sports Arena. But things got out of hand.

The constant interjections of Los Temerarios members (and brothers) Gustavo and Adolfo Angel were annoying--and the same applies to the two boorish emcees who helped bring the show’s momentum to a stop.

During a 15-minute interruption in the band’s first set, the emcees must have even embarrassed the group members with the continual fawning.

Los Temerarios is an entertaining group, but its music is excessively simple: a re-creation of a formula that relies heavily on synthesizers and electronic percussion. The group’s specialty is romantic songs, baladas, though it also plays nortenas and cumbias.

The evening dance party also included the norteno band Ramon Ayala y Los Bravos del Norte, the Honduran Tropical ensemble Banda Blanca (contributing possibly the night’s most appealing set) and the veteran group Los Muecas.
