Vitesse Semiconductor Reports $851,000 Profit

Vitesse Semiconductor Corp., reaping the benefits of growing orders, posted an $851,000 profit in its fiscal second quarter, up from a mere $40,000 a year earlier.

The higher earnings in the quarter that ended March 30 came on a 61% jump in Vitesse’s revenue, to $9.63 million from $5.98 million.

Vitesse is a Camarillo-based maker of semiconductors, notably those made of gallium arsenide, which are typically faster and more powerful than silicon-based chips. The company had its initial public stock offering in December.

For the first half of its fiscal year, Vitesse earned $1.1 million, compared with a year-earlier loss of $3.2 million, and its six-month revenue rose to $17.7 million from $10.3 million.
